A common belief in rich countries is that people in Bangladesh are poor but happy. This image is time and again confirmed by popular reality shows on Western television, in which the rich-and-famous visit little-known tribes in the most remote villages of rural Bangladesh, only to concede, in front of a dozen cameras, that despite all their hardship, the people they visited really seemed happier than the Bangladesh burnt-out desk-warrior in their home countries.
Since humankind first walked the Earth, we have changed the face of The Earth. Our activities on the Earth have destroyed many of the Earth's natural habitats and harmed the Earth. Starting from the age when man first started to use metal, more and more of the Earth's resources are being mined and used. These metals take millions of years to form but only several months to be mined and made into products to cater for the human needs. The Earth is running out of these materials.
We have a responsibility to keep our lakes and rivers clean and healthy for ourselves and our children. When phosphorus in fertilizer washes off of our lawns into lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound, it causes pollution that costs taxpayers and businesses millions of dollars to clean up.
